A Guide to the Enterprise Turnover Report

⚡ Purpose

The Enterprise Turnover Report gives multi-location companies a consolidated view of hires, terminations, and termination reasons across their entire organization.

Think of it as the organization-wide version of the standard Turnover Report; same underlying data, but with more ways to slice it across companies.

🔎 Why use the Enterprise Turnover Report?

Here are some common reasons teams run this report:

  • Compare turnover across companies: Review the beginning count, end count, and Turnover Rate for each company in your organization side by side.
  • Identify patterns by department, tenure, position, or generation: Break down termination reasons and Turnover Rate by the dimension that matters most to your organization.
  • Support organization-wide workforce planning: Use consolidated data to inform retention strategy and staffing decisions across your entire organization, rather than company by company.
  • Save time on manual reporting: Get filtered views of the same underlying data without running multiple company-level reports.

🔐 Access Required

The Enterprise Turnover Report is part of the Enterprise Dashboard feature and is exclusive to the Supreme package.

Who can access the Enterprise Turnover Report?

  • Super Administrators: Full access to generate and view the Enterprise Turnover Report, provided they've been granted access to the Enterprise Dashboard. If you are unable to access, please confirm your Enterprise Dashboard access with a Super Administrator.
  • Team Administrators: Do not have access to the Enterprise Dashboard, and therefore cannot access the Enterprise Turnover Report.

Understanding the Turnover Rate Calculation

The Turnover Rate (%) is the key metric in this report, so it's helpful to understand how it's calculated before reviewing the rest of the data.

We calculate the Turnover Rate as the number of terminations divided by the average headcount over your selected time period. Average headcount is the average of the number of employees at the start and end of that period. It doesn't account for changes in employee count during the period itself.

For example, if you started with 20 employees on March 1 and finished with 30 employees on July 1, your average headcount would be 25. If 5 employees left during that time, your Turnover Rate would be 20% (5/25).

Formulas:

  • Average Head Count = (Number of Employees at Start Date + Number of Employees at End Date) / 2

  • Turnover Rate (%) = Terminations / Average Head Count.

Understanding Generation Categories

For the Termination Reason By Generation and Turnover Percentage By Generation report filters, employees are grouped into the following generations based on their birth year:

Generation Birth Years
Baby Boomers 1946 – 1964
Gen X 1965 – 1980
Millenials 1981 – 1996
Gen Z 1997 – 2012
Other Before 1946 or an invalid birthdate

📌 | Note: This is based on the birthdate inputted in their employee profile. The Other category also covers any employee with an invalid birthdate on file. Any birth year recorded as before 1946 will be grouped into Other for reporting purposes.

Glossary Terms

Frequently Asked Questions About the Enterprise Turnover Report

Have questions about generating or reading the Enterprise Turnover Report? Whether you're wondering which filter to use, how generations are determined, or how this report differs from the standard Turnover Report, this section provides quick answers to help you review your organization's workforce data with confidence.

Q: What's the difference between the Enterprise Turnover Report and the Turnover Report?
A: The Turnover Report covers a single company's hires, terminations, and termination reasons at a location level. The Enterprise Turnover Report is part of the Enterprise Dashboard and lets you view consolidated turnover data across every company in your organization, filtered by Company, Department, Tenure, Position, or Generation.

Q: Can Team Administrators access the Enterprise Turnover Report?
A: No. Team Administrators do not have access to the Enterprise Dashboard, so they cannot access the Enterprise Turnover Report. For more details, refer to the Access Required section of this article.

Q: Which Report Filter should I use?
A: This depends on what you're trying to review. Use Company Wide for a high-level comparison across companies, or one of the Department, Tenure, Position, or Generation filters for a more detailed breakdown. For more details, refer to the Available Report Filters step of this article.

Q: Why might an employee show up in the Other generation category?
A: The Other category includes employees born before 1946, as well as any employee with an invalid birthdate on file. We recommend generating the Employee Information Report or the Enterprise Employee Information Report, filtered by birthday, to see who may have an invalid birthdate. You can then make the necessary changes in the specific employee profiles for future reporting. For more details, refer to the Understanding Generation Categories section of this article.
