Understanding Earnings and Deductions Presets (U.S. Accounts Only)

⚡ Purpose

This resource is designed to help you understand the various earnings, deduction, and benefit presets available under Earnings and Deductions in your account's Payroll tab. Using the correct presets is crucial for accurate payroll processing and compliance.

Every account includes core presets required to run payroll—such as regular and overtime earnings (always included in overtime/always taxable), tax-related presets, and presets used to process tips. Additional presets that may apply to specific scenarios are outlined below.

Earnings and deduction presets are available to subscription plans that include the Payroll feature.

Who can request changes to presets?

  • Super Administrators: Full access to request updates or additions to presets.
  • Team Administrators: Do not have access to request updates or additional presets.

Core Push Presets

Core Preset Name Description
Regular Pay Standard hourly wages for all hours worked up to the weekly threshold.
Overtime Pay Specific calculation for overtime accrued based on total weekly hour thresholds.
Doubletime CA Specific- Overtime paid at 2x employee regular rate of pay.
Cash Tips Tips received in cash by the employee and reported for tax withholding purposes.
Tips and Gratuities Electronic or pooled tips paid out to the employee through the payroll system.
Scheduling and State Penalties Premiums Paid to the employees for state mandated penalty pays (NY and CA). Please see US Push Compliance Automations

 

Additional Earning Presets

Earnings presets represent different types of employee compensation. These amounts are typically taxable unless otherwise noted.

Taxable earnings are automatically included in the calculation of deductions that are based on a percentage.

Use the table below to review which earnings presets are available, how they impact overtime calculations, and how they’re reported on employee W-2s.

Additional Deduction Presets

Deduction presets reduce an employee’s net take-home pay. These can be pre-tax (which reduce tax liability) or after-tax (which are taken after taxes are applied).

Refer to the table below to understand what deduction types are available and whether they appear on year-end tax forms like the W-2.

Additional Benefit Presets

Benefit presets are not paid directly to employees or deducted from their pay. These presets are used to record either:

  • Employer contributions toward employee benefits.
  • Dollars not paid to the employee through payroll but need to be added to the employee's taxable wages.
