Clocking In & Out From the Push Employee App

โšก How Do I Clock In and Out From My Phone?

Depending on how your employer has set things up, you may be able to clock in and out of your shifts right from your phone. This happens in the Push Employee app, the same app you already use to view your schedule, pay stubs, files, and communicate with others.

If you don't see this option, your employer may have you clock in and out on a shared device at work instead. In that case, refer to Clocking In & Out From the Push Time App.

๐Ÿ“Œ | Note: You'll need to be an active employee to clock in and out. If you're a former employee or have been set as inactive, you won't see this option. If you believe you should be active, please reach out to your employer or direct manager to review your profile details.

๐Ÿ’ก | Tip: In the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the app may be listed as Push Employee or Push Scheduler.

๐Ÿ“‹ Topics covered in this article:

Downloading the Push Employee App

If you already use the Push Employee app to view your schedule or pay stubs, you can skip this step. If not, download the app for free from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, then log in with the same email and password you use for your PUSH account.

๐Ÿ’ก | Tip: Check the compatibility requirements on the Push Employees app's page in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Older devices that can't run a recent version of the operating system may not be able to download or run the app.

Allowing Camera and Location Access

Your employer may use clock photos, which ask you to take a photo of yourself when you clock in and out, or a location check, which confirms you're at work when you do. For these to work, the Push Employee app needs permission to use your phone's camera and location.

Allowing these permissions is your choice. If you don't allow them, you'll still be able to clock in and out, but your employer won't receive a photo or your location with those clock entries. If you have questions or concerns about these permissions, it's best to check with your employer or direct manager.

For Android phones:
  1. Open your phone's Settings.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap Push Employee.
  4. Tap Permissions.
  5. Turn on Camera and Location access.
For Apple phones:
  1. Open your phone's Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Camera and turn on the toggle next to Push Employee.
  4. Go back to Privacy & Security, tap Location Services, then tap Push Employee and select While Using the App.

๐Ÿ“Œ | Note: Menu names can vary by phone model and operating system version. If you can't find these options, check your phone manufacturer's help documentation.

Understanding the Clock-In/Out Zone Map

If your employer has set up a clock-zone (geo-tagged location) around your workplace, you'll see a map on the Time Attendance page when you clock in and out. The location your employer has approved is outlined in yellow, so you can check where you are before you continue.

  • Inside the zone: A red pin with a circle around it shows where you are, and no warning appears.
  • Outside the zone: You'll appear as a white circle, or a grey circle when the map is zoomed out, and a warning banner will let you know you may not be within your designated clock-in zone.

You can still clock in and out if you're outside the zone, but your manager will see that the entry was made outside your workplace.

๐Ÿ“Œ | Note: If you aren't sharing your location with the Push Employee app, no map will appear and that section will be blank. You'll still see the warning banner, and you can still clock in and out. To share your location, refer to the Allowing Camera and Location Access section of this article.

Clocking In

When you're ready to start your shift, you can clock in from the Time Attendance option in the app. Depending on your employer's setup, you may also be asked to answer a few quick questions or take a photo along the way.

  1. Open the Push Employee app.
  2. Navigate to the Time Attendance tab.
  3. On the Time Attendance page, review your shift details. Clock, Scheduled, and Duration are filled in for you and can't be changed:
    1. Clock: The date and time that will be recorded as the start of your shift.
    2. Scheduled: The start and end time of your scheduled shift, or Unscheduled if you aren't on the schedule.
    3. Duration: ย The total time between your clock-in and clock-out (e.g. 5 hours or 30 mins)
    4. Position: Your current or first Position is filled in for you. If you work more than one Position, tap the Position name, select the correct one in the pop-up, then tap Confirm.
    5. Comment box: If you'd like, leave a note for your manager. For example, you're starting a few minutes early with approval, you're running late because of a delayed bus, or you'd like to add a reminder.
  4. When you're ready to start your shift, tap Clock In.
๐Ÿ’ก | Tip: If your employer has set up a clock-out survey or uses clock photos, follow the prompts on screen.
  5. Once you see the thank-you message, you're clocked in, and your shift has started!

Clocking Out

When your shift is over, clock out from the same Time & Attendance option. The steps are similar to clocking in, and any survey or photo prompts will appear in the same order.

  1. Open the Push Employee app.
  2. Navigate to the Time Attendance tab.
  3. On the Time Attendance page, review your shift details:
    1. Clock: The date and time that will be recorded as the end of your shift.
    2. Scheduled: The start and end time of your scheduled shift, or Unscheduled if you weren't on the schedule.
    3. Duration: The total time between your clock-in and clock-out (e.g. 5 hours or 30 mins)
    4. Position: The Position you clocked in under. This cannot be changed at this stage.ย
    5. Comment box: If you'd like, leave a note for your manager. For example, you stayed late to cover a shift, or you selected the wrong Position when clocking in.
  4. When you're ready to end your shift, tap Clock Out.
๐Ÿ’ก | Tip: If your employer has set up a clock-out survey or uses clock photos, follow the prompts on screen.
  5. Once you see the thank-you message, you're clocked out, and your shift has ended!

Frequently Asked Questions About Clocking In and Out on the Push Employee App

Have questions about clocking in and out from your phone? Whether you're wondering why an option is missing, what the map means, or what a survey is for, we've got you covered with quick answers to common questions.

๐Ÿ’ก | Tip: Can't find what you're looking for? Contact your direct manager or employer if you need more help with clocking in and out.

Q: Why don't I see the Time & Attendance option in my app?

A: Your employer may not have turned it on for your Position, or you may have been set as inactive. Try logging out of the Push Employee app and logging back in.

๐Ÿ‘‰ If you still don't see it, your employer or direct manager can check your setup.

Q: Why doesn't the camera appear when I clock in or out?

A: Your phone needs to allow the Push Employee app to use its camera. Refer to the Allowing Camera and Location Access section of this article.

Or it could be that your employer has not enabled the clock photo function in their account.ย

๐Ÿ‘‰ If you are expecting to see it, please reach out to your employer or direct manager for assistance.ย

Q: What do the yellow box and dot on the map mean?

A: The yellow box shows your workplace area or a location that is approved for clocking in and out. The other dot is your current location. This is set up by your employer to ensure you clock in and out at approved locations.ย

To learn more about how the clock map works, refer to the Understanding the Clock-In/Out Zone Map section of this article.

Q: Can I clock in if the map shows I am outside the yellow box (designated area)?

ย A: Yes. You won't be blocked from clocking in or out, but your manager will see that the entry was made outside your workplace.

Q: Why am I being asked questions when I clock in or out?

A: Your employer has set up a clock survey. These are a few quick questions your employer would like you to answer, and your answers are shared with them.

๐Ÿ‘‰ If you have questions about a survey, your employer or direct manager can help.

Q: I forgot to clock in or out. What should I do?ย

A: Clock in or out as soon as you can, and leave a note for your manager in Enter an Optional Message for the Manager explaining what happened.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Your manager can review your clock entry and correct the time if needed.

Or talk directly with your manager or employer, and they can retroactively add a Clock entry on their side to record your work hours.ย

Q: Can I take breaks from the Push Employee app?

A: Breaking in and out during a shift is only available on the Push Time app, but if your employer has set up a Break Survey, you will be prompted to input the total amount of time you took a break for or select an answer type.ย

๐Ÿ‘‰ If you have questions about how your breaks are recorded, your employer or direct manager can help.
