⚡ What is a Custom BI Dashboard?
A custom BI dashboard is a workspace you build yourself, combining one or more BI visualizations into a single view. Unlike our BI prebuilt dashboards, a custom BI dashboard is built entirely around what your team wants to track, whether that's a specific metric, a department, or a mix of insights from across your business.
💡 | Tip: Haven't created any BI visualizations yet? Check out our guide on Creating BI Visualizations for a Custom Dashboard first; you'll need at least one before you can build a dashboard around it.
🔎 Why Build a Custom BI Dashboard?
Here are some common scenarios where building a custom BI dashboard can help:
- See everything that matters, in one place: Combine BI visualizations from across your account into a single dashboard tailored to your team or goal.
- Reuse what you've already built: Add any BI visualization you've created, or one shared with you, without starting from scratch.
- Keep your team looking at the same data: Save and share your dashboard so everyone stays aligned.
🔐 Access required
The BI Insights feature is only available with the BI Insights Add-On and can be purchased exclusively by accounts on the Supreme package.
If you do not have the BI Insights feature and are interested in learning more, please reach out to our PUSH Support Team, who can connect you with the right team member.
Who can create a custom BI Dashboard?
- Super Administrators: Have full access to BI Insights, including creating and managing custom BI Dashboards, from the Enterprise Dashboard for the entire organization. Access is granted only if explicitly added; it's not provided by default. If you believe you should have access, please consult with your team. A user with access can request that the PUSH Support Team add new users.
Who does not have access?
- Team Administrators: Do not have access to the Enterprise Dashboard and cannot access BI Insights.

Creating a New Custom BI Dashboard
Once you've got at least one BI visualization ready to go, you're ready to bring it together on a dashboard. Here's how to start a new one.
- Navigate to the top right-hand corner and click the Company Name.
- Under Organizations, select the relevant Dashboard from the drop-down menu.
- Click the BI Tool tab.
- From the left-hand navigation bar, click the Plus (+) icon to start a new BI visualization.
- The page will reload into the Dashboard builder view. Refer to the section below for next steps!
Adding Visualizations to Your Dashboard
In the Saved Visualizations section, you'll find two tabs to help you find what you need:
- Created By Me: Shows BI visualizations you've personally built.
- All: Includes your BI visualizations plus any shared with you, including ones built by PUSH.
Use the search bar to filter the list further if you're looking for something specific.
Once you've found a BI visualization you'd like to include, drag it into the main display area. A blue highlight appears when you hover over the right spot, confirming where to drop it. After dropping it in, your dashboard updates to preview how it looks, with the visualization's data loading in real time.
After placing a BI visualization, click the title to name the Dashboard and description fields above each visualization to explain what is being shown. This helps clarify what information is being included, such as the metric or time period the data reflects.
Adding and Managing Dashboard Filters
When you add a BI visualization, any filters already attached to it automatically populate at the top of your dashboard. These can be adjusted to narrow or widen the view, for example, changing from "This Month" to "All Time" to reveal more data. You also have the option to create filters in the Dashboard itself if it applies.
To add a filter manually:
- From the left sidebar under New Item, drag the Filter option into the Filter box at the top of the dashboard canvas.
- A pop-up appears with filterable fields based on your account's data, split into two tabs: ABC for text-based attributes (like Company or Department), and a calendar icon for date-based fields (like Pay Period Start or Date of Hire).
- Select a field to apply as an interactive filter at the top of your dashboard.
- To remove a filter, drag it back to the data list on the left and drop it in the highlighted trash area.
📌 | Note: If a filter isn't compatible with the data in a specific visualization, you'll see a message that says "Sorry, we can't display this visualization." This means the filter doesn't apply to the fields used in that visualization, and you may need to adjust your selection.
Customizing and Editing a Visualization on Your Dashboard
Click any BI visualization on your dashboard to open its configuration panel on the right. From here, you can:
- Adjust layout and configuration settings
- Edit display interactions, like hover or drill-down behaviour
- Remove the visualization from the dashboard entirely
If the panel disappears, click the visualization block directly to reopen it.
To make changes to the visualization itself, click Edit from the panel. This redirects you to the Visualization Builder, pre-filled with that visualization's existing details, so you can adjust data points, filters, or formatting without starting from scratch.
Once you're satisfied with your updates, click Save New in the top-right corner. This creates a new version of the visualization based on your edits, while keeping the original intact. Think of it as using the original as a prefilled template. You'll be asked to give the new version a name before saving.
📌 | Note: If you edit a visualization directly from within the dashboard and save it, the dashboard automatically updates to reflect the new version. The updated visualization is also added to your Saved Visualizations list for future use.
If you decide not to proceed with any changes, click Cancel to return without saving.
Saving & Sharing Your Dashboard
Once you're happy with the visualizations and filters you've added, click Save in the top right corner of the page to finalize your dashboard.
After saving, you'll return to the main BI Tool tab, and your new dashboard will open. You will see that the new dashboard is visible in the left-hand navigation bar under the Private section, meaning it's currently only accessible to you.
If you choose to share the Dashboard with your teammates, open the Dashboard you want and click Share in the top-right corner of the page.
A pop-up will appear where you can click Add to select specific administrators (their first and last names and email addresses will be listed to help you choose the right person). Once they are chosen, make sure to click Save, and the dashboard will be available to your teammates!
