Updating Your Company Name Or Legal Name

⚡ Purpose

Your PUSH account has two separate naming fields that are used differently depending on the context:

  • Company Name: the day-to-day title of your account. This is what employees, administrators, and other users see across PUSH whenever they log in and navigate the platform. For example, a business might display "Joe's Coffee" as its Company Name, even though that's not its official registered name.

  • Legal Name: the exact name your business is registered under with tax and government authorities. This is used for official documents such as T4S, W-2s, pay stubs, and Records of Employment (ROE). For example, a business's Legal Name might be registered as "1234567 Ltd".

Because these two names serve different purposes, updating them requires different approaches. A Company Name change doesn't require any documentation, while a Legal Name change requires supporting documentation since it affects tax filings and payroll compliance.

🔐 Access required

Requests to update either name must come from a Super Administrator or, whenever possible, the individual who signed the original agreement. Our team will review the request and follow up with the appropriate individual if applicable.

Updating Your Company Name

Updating your Company Name is common and doesn't require a specific reason. Maybe the name set up when you first joined PUSH no longer feels representative, or your business has grown, and you'd like your account to reflect that. Since the Company Name is only a display name and doesn't affect tax or compliance records, updating it doesn't require any documentation.

To update your Company Name, please complete the following:

  1. Send an email to our Support Team at support@pushoperations.com.
  2. Use a clear subject line, such as Company Name Change.
  3. Include the new Company Name you'd like it updated to, making sure to capitalize it exactly as you want it to display.
  4. Send your request. Once we receive it, our Support Team will follow up with you and make the necessary updates. You can review the updated Company Name in your account under Company Setup.

Updating Your Company's Legal Name

You may need to update your Legal Name if it has changed with the authority your business is registered with. Since your Legal Name is tied to how your business is registered with tax authorities, changing it requires documentation from the tax authorities before PUSH can update your account.

To update your Legal Name, please complete the following:

  1. Send an email to our Accounting Team at payments@pushoperations.com.
  2. Use a clear subject line, such as Legal Name Update Request.
  3. Include the new Legal Name, along with proof that it has already been updated with the relevant registering authority. The documentation required depends on your location:

    Country Documentation Required
Canada The name is currently registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
USA A letter from the IRS reflecting the new name, along with updated Articles of Incorporation/Organization or Secretary of State registration, if applicable.
  4. Send your request. Once we receive it, our Accounting Team will review your request and either follow up with you if they require additional information or let you know once the update has been made. You can review the updated Legal Name in your account under Company Setup.

Frequently Asked Questions About Company Name & Legal Name Updates

Have questions about updating your Company Name or Legal Name? Whether you're wondering which one applies to you, what documentation you need, or who to contact, this section provides quick answers to help you make the update with confidence.

Q: What's the difference between my Company Name and Legal Name?
A: Your Company Name is the display name your team members see across PUSH. From the login screen to scheduler notifications. Your Legal Name is the exact name your business is registered under with tax authorities and is used on official documents such as T4s, W-2s, pay stubs, and Records of Employment (ROE).

Q: Can I update either name myself in my account?
A: No, you do not have access to make changes to the Company Name or Legal Name directly in your account. Both updates must be requested by an active Super Administrator or the individual who signed your original agreement with PUSH. See the relevant sections above to learn how to submit a request.

Q: Why does updating my Legal Name require documentation, but my Company Name doesn't?
A: Your Legal Name is tied to tax filings and payroll compliance. PUSH's Accounting team requires documentation to confirm the change before updating it. Your Company Name is only a display label, so it doesn't carry the same requirement.
